This is always a puzzling question for many of the applicants. Exactly why this is happening? It’s a question that should be answered by both, prospective employers as well as potential employees. If we consider the employers’ side they neglect or refuse the resumes that they feel as unsuitable for their expectations in their mind, culture, HR policies, company policies, government rules and regulations. The candidates may be over qualified, under qualified, unsuitably qualified, fails to make the positive first impression, etc. Likewise from the applicants’ point of view they should clearly understand the job role and apply accordingly. Before applying they should think about the cultural aspects and other governmental policies between Sri Lanka and the prospective employer’s country. Also they should never forget to make a positive first impression. The covering letter, the resume and other particulars should be professionally drafted, should address the suitable person and the company, and must be properly formatted. Failing to do so may result in unselected resumes and applicants.
