Psychiatrists

Responsibilities:

·      Evaluate patient through conversations, interviews, and observations

·      Administer patient tests or request testing/lab work; analyze patient data and results

·      Diagnose patient with a correct psychological, emotional, or behavioural disorder

·      Collaborate with patient’s physicians and other medical staff to determine treatment

·      Set the patient’s goals and discuss treatment plans

·      Establish timelines, tasks, and medical needs of the patient

·      Analyze the best medications or therapy to help the patient reach the goal

·      Prescribe medications and monitor patient intake

·      Document patient records and progress, including symptoms, medications, and treatments

·      Counsel patient and listen to their reactions to treatment

·      Provide patient with emotional tools and methods for recovery

·      Educate the patient, patient’s family, significant others, and relevant parties of the patient’s progress, treatment, and future goals

·      Conduct research to better serve patients

 Requirements:

·      Bachelor’s degree in biology, pre-med, physical sciences, psychology, or related field

·      Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

·      Successful completion of U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX-USA)

·      Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; local state regulations and certifications, Continuing Medical Education (CME), and Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requirements must be met

·      Four-year psychiatric residency

·      Participation in further medical education and professional organization memberships are preferred

·      Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite

·      Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·      Great interpersonal relations, communications, and demeanour
